MAFCU (Medical Area Federal Credit Union ) has raised $11,000 for two organizations serving the homeless -- Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless and Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program. The funds were raised through a raffle for a 2010 Honda Insight hybrid. Henry Ferguson of Boston, MA, is the winner of the Insight. The raffle drawing was held on November 5. The Honda Insight was provided by MAFCU affiliate Prime Motor Group.

MAFCU embraces the credit union philosophy of concern for community and participates in a variety of community projects throughout the year. "The Coalition is extremely appreciative of this partnership,” comments Robyn Frost, Executive Director, Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. “This funding comes at a time when the numbers of homeless families continue to escalate."

The raffle is a joint project with the Massachusetts Credit Union League, which has a long-time partnership of supporting the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. “Helping those in need is particularly important in this economic climate,” comments Nicole James, MAFCU President and CEO, and Chair of the League’s Social Responsibility Committee. “On behalf of MAFCU and the Credit Union community throughout Massachusetts, I want to thank all those who supported the raffle, and look forward to your continued support.”

MAFCU is a financial cooperative dedicated to the financial wellbeing of members. MAFCU’s unique mission focuses on three strategic areas – service to members, financial education, and community involvement. MAFCU serves more than 10,000 members and more than 90 affiliate groups.
